Radium
 
In 2002, the Anne Arundel County Health Department began regulating the depths of new wells drilled in the northern section of the county due to high levels of radium found in the area well water. The radium was found in the shallow sections of the aquifers supplying the well water. The new wells, therefore, would need to be drilled to a deeper level in the aquifer.
